Pregnancy is a time filled with exploration and changes. I believe that the pregnant woman should be the focus at this time with prenatal care centered on her needs. In addition, her partner, children, and extended family can be an integral part of her experience and care. Each pregnancy is a unique experience, influenced by the ways in which the mother and baby are intertwined physically, emotionally, and physiologically. Each pregnancy is special, in that pregnancy may only occur a few times in the woman’s life. The pregnant woman is the one to make decisions regarding her care; the midwife’s role is to inform her of risks, benefits, and alternatives to each suggested test or procedure.
My goal as a midwife is to provide a safe space for the mother (and those who support her) to ask questions, explore emotions, and make informed decisions. Labor and birth proceed easiest when the woman feels safe, undisturbed, and uninhibited; my role as the midwife is to monitor mom and baby unobtrusively so as to maintain safety while the woman labors in ways that feel right to her.
The postpartum period is one of adjustment as the family makes space for the new person that has entered their world. One benefit of homebirth and midwifery care is that during the “babymoon” period, I visit you in your home to care for you and the baby.
Since 2015 I have been a licensed midwife (LM) by the California Medical Board and a professional midwife (CPM) certified by the North American Registry of Midwives. Both of these titles require continuing education and peer review of my practice. I have completed 3 years of study at National Midwifery Institute and 4.5 years of an apprenticeship with Edana Hall, LM. I have been a childbirth educator and doula in San Luis Obispo county since 2008. I enjoy our small community because I am often encountering clients and their families, giving me opportunities to see your children and families grow and flourish.
I am a midwife at Holistic Midwifery Care in partnership with Edana Hall, LM. We serve clients throughout San Luis Obispo county, as well as in Santa Maria. Our office is located in Atascadero, within 20 minutes of Morro Bay, Cayucos, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, and Templeton. We welcome women and families for a free consult. Please contact us to learn more about how we can serve you and care for you during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, or for well-woman care.
